Set at the foot of the Peak District, Mossley is overlooked by White Gate Mountain. A rural retreat, this traditional Lancashire town has something for everyone.
For families it offers a choice of nursery, primary and high schools. In fact, WhiteGates has a primary school just across the road, making it ideal for families with young children.
The town itself is home to a small array of convenient shops, pubs and restaurants to satisfy your immediate needs. In addition to all this, there is the fantastic Old Brow Park with a bowling green, tennis courts, basketball courts and excellent playing fields for the more energetic. And if you’d rather watch than play you can always support Mossley AFC or Micklehurst Cricket Club.
There is something for all the family throughout the year with beautiful nature trails, peaceful walks along the canal to the famous Scout Tunnel and the tranquil River Tame which flows through Mossley from Lancashire to Yorkshire. Furthermore, there are fantastic community events. These include unique productions held
at the George Lawton Hall by the Mossley Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society which is one of the most successful in the North West and the nationally acclaimed annual ‘Whit Friday’ Brass Band contest which
attracts many visitors every year.
Of course, you can’t forget that right on Mossley’s doorstep is the Peak District. Britain’s first national park, it offers a stunning and diverse landscape to explore. Whether going out for a gentle country stroll, heading off for a cycle or planning a long hike, this excellent area of the great outdoors is ready and waiting for you.
